Summary
The Bible teaches Christians to “weep with those who weep”—that is, to deeply sympathize with those who are suffering. Unfortunately, however, our attempts at sympathy can deepen people’s wounds.
In this episode, Jonathan and Christa discuss several things not to say to people who are suffering. Most of these missteps come from an overeagerness to cheer a person up, a desire to be the “hero” of the situation, or a naive view of suffering and lament. By sharing personal stories and offering biblical wisdom, Jonathan and Christa emphasize the importance of humility and Spirit-led wisdom when comforting others in times of sorrow.
